To get a beautiful green lawn that attracts the attention of your neighbors, it is crucial to learn how to plant grass seeds very well. Seeding the garden is an easy DIY project whether you want a new lawn or more of your existing property. Preparing the soil, spreading the seeds, and applying the mulch are needed. This project will be even easier if you want to delegate this work to an expert.

The most important quality to have when watering your lawn is patience. Traditional seeding is the slowest growing method of grass but is also the most affordable.

Here are eight steps to plant grass seed, so it grows fresh and green.

Step 1. Select The Best Grass Seed For Your Lawn

Finding the right grass seed can be complex. However, since you will grow natural grass seed, you have more options than hydroseeding or turf.

Step 2. Test The Soil

Soil testing is not required to plant grass, but it is a good idea if you want your seeds to grow into a healthy lawn. When nutrients, soil ph., and salt levels are out of balance, your yard will have difficulty thriving.

Step 3. Plant At The Right Time Of The Year

It would help if you waited for the right time of year to plant the grass. Spring is the best time to plant warm-season grasses, and fall is the best in the fantasy season. It is advisable to always plant grass seed during the peak growing season for your lawn.

Step 4. Prepare The Soil

You need to loosen the soil, to plant the grass seeds. We will give you three critical reasons why preparing the ground is essential.

1. Throw the seeds on hard ground; without working, the rain may wash them away.

2. Hard soil has difficulty absorbing water, making it difficult for seeds to germinate.

3. Existing turf can prevent seeds from contacting the soil, limiting new growth.

Step 5. Plant The Seed

When the soil is ready, you can start spreading the grass seed in two directions you go from east to west in the first layer, and in the second, go from north to south. Spreading the grass seed in two opposite directions ensures you cover the entire area.

Step 6. Rake Up The Grass Seed

Could you gently rake the grass with a garden rake to cover the seeds with some soil?

Step 7. Apply Mulch

Apply a thin layer of straw over the grass seed to protect it from wind and rain. You should know that the straw may have some weed seeds.

Step 8. Water The Lawn

His work still needs to be finished. Your grass seedlings still need much attention to grow healthy and strong. What you need most is water.

After planting the grass seeds, you must mist them with water one to two times a day, depending on the soil type, how hot it is outside, and the weather. Don’t let the top ½ inch of soil dry out. Ideally, keep the soil moist but not soaked.
